Welcome to the Women's Bureau, Region IV WebPage. The headquarters for the Regional Office is in Atlanta, Georgia. The Regional office provides services to women living in the eight States of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. The region offers a vast range of industry and economic conditions, from the affluence of metropolitan cities like Atlanta, to the abject poverty of the Mississippi Delta, from the dominance of coal mining in Kentucky to the tourist Mecca of Florida.
Over the past decade, the Southeast has experienced even greater economic expansion than other parts of the country.
Alabama has replaced lost manufacturing jobs with significant gains in the service industries. Kentucky has expanded into automobile manufacturing medical services. Mississippi's Gulfport/Biloxi area is home to the third largest gaming industry an accompanying growth in the lodging industry. North Carolina continues to grow as a technical center while the tobacco industry has shifted to exports to Asia and furniture production as increased. South Carolina's tourism industry has helped to replace losses from the downturn in military spending. Tennessee has vast warehousing for distribution of auto parts, tires, and Federal Express packages. Florida has offset losses in military and aerospace with tourism and banking. Georgia's airline industry remains healthy with a growing airport. Atlanta has experienced some tech industry layoffs, but its population continues to grow at a somewhat slower pace. The southeast remains one of the most vital and varied regions in the country with a diverse population.
Please take the opportunity to explore the WebPage. As you click on each State, you will find more specific statistical data on women.
We hope you will find this information helpful and visit often. For further information, please telephone the office.
