U.S. LABOR DEPARTMENT FILES COMPLAINT AGAINST NATIONWIDE WAREHOUSE AND STORAGE INC., COLUMBUS, OHIO, ALLEGING WAGE VIOLATIONS
The U.S. Department of Labor has filed a complaint against Nationwide Warehouse and Storage Inc., 2097 S. Hamilton Road, Columbus, Ohio, alleging federal minimum wage and overtime pay violations.
The complaint was filed in U.S. District Court, Southern District of Ohio, Eastern Division, Columbus, under the Fair Labor Standards Act. The Labor Department asked the court to enjoin the firm from future minimum wage and overtime pay violations. The complaint requested the court to determine the amount of back wages owed to workers. The violations allegedly occurred since June 1996.
Wage and Hour District Director Richard Malloy in Columbus said, "The Labor Department will take all steps to ensure that vulnerable workers are properly paid."
Nationwide Warehouse and Storage Inc. operates retail furniture stores in the United States and Canada.
The Labor Department's Wage and Hour Division enforces the Fair Labor Standards Act. The federal law sets a federal minimum wage of $5.15 for most workers and generally requires overtime pay for hours worked over 40 in any workweek. The law also requires employers to keep accurate time and payroll records.
The legal action follows an investigation by the Wage and Hour Division, 646 Federal Office Building, 200 North High Street, Columbus, Ohio, under the supervision of Richard J. Malloy, district director.
